Jordan Peele's directorial debut is a brilliant fusion of horror and social commentary that changed the genre forever.

Get Out works on multiple levels simultaneously. As a horror film, it's impeccably crafted, building tension with precision and delivering genuine scares. As social commentary, it's razor-sharp, using horror conventions to illuminate the insidious nature of liberal racism.

Daniel Kaluuya gives a performance of remarkable subtlety as Chris, a man whose growing unease is met with gaslighting at every turn. The genius of the film is how it makes the audience feel Chris's isolation — we see the danger before he does, and Peele makes that dramatic irony almost unbearable.

Get Out announced the arrival of a major new voice in horror. Jordan Peele proved that the genre is not only capable of addressing serious themes but is perhaps uniquely suited to do so.
